I know shinkou said he would post this. But he's a busy guy so while figuring how to do it myself, here is how you equalize your vent volume across the board. Meaning people who are low volume will be higher (umokthar in raids). People who are high volume will be lower (umokthar out of raids).
Go to Setup
Enable Direct Sound ( check-box above 'output device')
Select the SFX Button
Select Compressor and click Add.
Under Compressor Properties use the following settings
Gain = 5-7 (I use 5)
Adjust for how loud you want people to be.
Attack = 0.01
How quickly ventrilo will respond to variances in volume.
Release = Around 500
How long will the compressor continue after no sound is produced.
Threshold = Around -30
Applies to how low the volume of someone has to be before it is adjusted. Normal volume is around -25 to -15.
Ratio = 100
The amount volume gets adjusted below the threshold. You want this at 100% to reduce sound variation completely.
Pre delay = 4.0
Attempts to detect how high a sound will be X milliseconds ahead and start adjusting to match.
No more ear bleeding and raising your volume to hear ises say "xeronehey."
